Using RPS Technology™, unique laser vision
and mapping system, the robot will see its
surroundings and create a map of everything,
including furniture, objects, and doorways.
Then using this map as a guide, the robot will
vacuum the room methodically and thoroughly
carefully avoiding furniture and walls. Working
in a methodical pattern, the XV 11 knows its
location at all times. When finished in one room,
it will move to the next, and then return
automatically to the charging base.

3D TV without 3D glasses

Toshiba will reportedly release a 3D television that does not require 3D glasses.

The company will produce three models before the holiday season, according to Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper. They won't come cheap; the paper said each set will likely cost several thousand dollars.

Toshiba came up with a technology that displays rays of light at different angles, which eliminates the need for the glasses, the paper said.

"We are developing 3D TVs without the need for glasses, but cannot comment further as we have yet to decide upon when to commercialize such a product, concrete specifications, or any other details," a Toshiba spokesman said in an e-mail.

Call phones from Gmail

Gmail voice and video chat makes it easy to stay in touch with friends and family using your computer’s microphone and speakers. But until now, this required both people to be at their computers, signed into Gmail at the same time. Given that most of us don’t spend all day in front of our computers, we thought, “wouldn’t it be nice if you could call people directly on their phones?”
Starting today, you can call any phone right from Gmail.

Calls to the U.S. and Canada will be free for at least the rest of the year and calls to other countries will be billed at our very low rates.
